Listserv etiquette
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 10:47AM Convos groups come with listserv-style messaging by default. In a listserv, messages sent to the central group email address are distributed to everyone in the group. Convos checks to make sure the messages come from group members so your groups cannot be spammed by outsiders.
With an open messaging platform like a listserv, group communications are free-flowing and while there are obvious advantages to this, having a policy for messaging can help keep everyone on the same page and thinking twice before they click send.
Here's an template of a policy that can be used for your groups. You can add to, modify, or create your own policy based on the goals and membership of your groups.
LISTSERV POLICY TEMPLATE
This GROUP has set up a listserve for all of its members to use. Only members that have been added to the listserve can send an email to the shared address, GROUP EMAIL ADDRESS. This address is shared with more than X members to communicate information that may be relevant to them but also relevant to the people they know. In a world where success can be bred through the help of the people you know, any communications regarding opportunities and useful advice from a member should be accepted in a considerate and respectful manner.
EXPECTATIONS
Any reasonable, unoffensive emails are allowed on the listserve. Examples of those include any information regarding group events and meetings, topics related to this group, and opportunities that are relevant to everyone in the group.
COMPLAINTS
The GROUP NAME does not allow any communication from members whose intent is to coerce, offend, or intimidate others. Complaints about certain messages or members should be sent to GROUP ADMIN EMAIL where they will be reviewed. Offending members will be warned for each occurrence that the leaders find completely unacceptable.
Any questions regarding the listserve or the chapter can be sent to GROUP ADMIN EMAIL.
Thanks!
